I lost interest in this after Jimmy got an early boot. Not sure who is left now.

I haven't watched any X Factor for years, since Alexandra Burke won it. Can't stand the judges especially that fucker Cowell.

I'm prone to over-analysis :). The eating rituals on the show are one of the most fascinating parts I think, that tie into tribal culture. The idea that viewers retch at the thought of someone eating ostrich penis, then go eat the body and blood of christ on a Sunday at church :).

Primarily I just watch the show for the betting, which has become a big part of my life over the past decade. It's one of the things I look forward to the most every year, sad as that may sound :). I find it much more fascinating and rewarding than other sports betting, and it's less time-consuming and strictly theoretical than poker.

So I defend it because I find it interesting, not necessarily because it is the perfect example of 'entertainment'. It depends what you bring to the process yourself I think - if you just want to veg out in front of people interacting I guess the soaps are better on the whole.

Looking at how a group interact under certain limitations and rules is what football is really. I don't see the two as fundamentally much different.

That's exactly what goes through my head when I see a Playboy bunny eating Ostrich penis.

Alex I just think it's repetetive crap and a waste of time, no agenda.
Also not sure that you can compare sitting on your arse all night starring at a TV is comparable to Lion Cubs playing on the Savannah and human development, but you carry on it's amusing..........

Nah you're right BR13, some just spend their time worrying about what others are doing with their lives. I know which one is sadder.

I completely disagree. What reality TV mostly consists of is organised play, social interaction of the sort that all humans use to develop a sense of their limits and best practice in the real world. Play, and the use of games in society, is as fundamental as lion cubs playfighting in the savannah. It's debatably equally as useful and important as any drama or fiction. As is football and all manner of other games that we play or observe.

Criticising reality TV is actually an attempt to protect the status quo. The idea that entertainment of value can only be produced by the elites. Or procured in galleries or theatres.

In fact, the false accusation of 'dumbing down' most often comes from those with a vested interest in criticising play or improvised entertainment. Actors, writers, broadcasters, ie the establishment. It's they who lose out because reality TV is far more entertaining and 'useful' than what they produced.

Re: Jimmy Bullard - Official: I'm a Celeb thread
Believe it or not some people don't waste their entire lives watching TV, esp all the reality and Celebrity drivel that is constantly on every night of the week.
Who says the public have been dumbed down eh.............
Got you right where they want you, BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Re: Jimmy Bullard - Official: I'm a Celeb thread
It's a great show which has genuinely funny moments and is presented by two genuinely funny and likeable blokes. This is why it's so popular.

The people who usually slag it off have never even seen it before and it's vastly different from the normal reality programmes. Harmless fun during the winter nights.

If it's not your thing then fine, but I personally enjoy watching a half decent looking woman trying to eat a kangaroo's anus in the name of entertainment. Even Soho doesn't cater for that!

It's a harmless hour of fun every evening with great presenters which is why it's popular.

If you prefer foreign language films to fill your evenings, then there's another thread about that.

Re: Jimmy Bullard - Official: I'm a Celeb thread
The show is loosely based on the show Survivor that did use 'ordinary' members of the public. Also a decent show imo.

Monk is in that extremely narrow demographic in that he's too cool for I'm a Celeb yet not quite cool enough to not spend all day posting on here

Re: Jimmy Bullard - Official: I'm a Celeb thread
I would enjoy this if it were ordinary unknown members of the public watching. The fact it's celebrities add only a little spice for me. I just love watching anyone freaking out whilst confronting their fears. I love watching good scare pranks. Would never bother watching big brother or x-factor, but this one has an edger. Never seen it before, but have enjoyed it so far.

The camp morale is fucked now that Bullard has gone. He was holding them all together for the most part, even if he was winding some of them up sometimes, he was the reason there hadn't been very much falling out and bickering and depression. Going to get ugly now.....yum yum.
